Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince – A Quick Review
Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince is the latest film in the Harry Potter series. I’m not going to lie to you, I went to see this movie the day it came out. I expected this to be a pretty decent picture because I had read the book and enjoyed the previous films. I’m not a huge fan of the Harry Potter series as I feel like it’s for a younger audience and I’m in my later years but still.
Movies today can be good, they can be bad, they can be ugly, but they’re rarely a total waste of time, but somehow this particular Harry Potter movie takes the cake. The pace of the whole film was slow and monotonous. The acting was incredibly poor and at times I felt like half the actors on screen forgot their lines all of a sudden. The plot was initially weak, but unfortunately the interesting elements were happening off-camera for most of the film.
There’s something to be said for when the most interesting character doesn’t even appear onscreen for the entire movie. The main villain isn’t anywhere in this movie, and when his henchman shows up, he’s not dastardly and he’s not vicious. They accomplish nothing when it comes to instilling fear and often the heroes laugh at them until the very end.
Don’t worry, I won’t spoil the ending unless you want to, but you can take my word for it: it’s a lot more uninteresting than you expected. It happens too quickly and none of the characters react to it. It just sucks.
Save your money and Netflix this Harry Potter movie when it comes out on Blu Ray or DVD and I would only advise you to do this if you care about the Harry Potter series. If you’re not a fan of the series, don’t even bother with this one.
